Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said today, February 25, that India is encouraged by Germany’s interest in Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India). According to Mr Modi’s press statement after his meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in New Delhi, Chancellor Scholz understands the many possibilities between India and Germany. Mutually beneficial issues were discussed, according to him.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz meets with PM Modi in New DelhiAs PM Modi noted, India and Germany have strong ties based on shared democratic values and a deep understanding of each other’s interests. Moreover, the two countries have had a long history of cultural and economic exchange. In today’s stress-ridden world, increased cooperation between the two largest democratic economies of the world creates a positive message for their people.

Following the 6th Intergovernmental Consultation held in May last year, the leaders reviewed key outcomes. They discussed ways to strengthen defence and economic cooperation, increase talent mobility, and expand science and technology collaborations. A fourth meeting between the two leaders in the last year underscores their commitment to furthering Indo-German relations.

In the morning, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz arrived in New Delhi on a two-day visit to India. In addition to senior government officials, a high-powered business delegation is accompanying him. In Rashtrapati Bhawan’s forecourt, he was welcomed ceremoniously. CEOs and business leaders from both sides also interacted with the two leaders. Chancellor Scholz will meet with President Droupadi Murmu.

A shared set of values, trust, and mutual understanding underpin the India-Germany Strategic Partnership. Strong investment and trade links, cooperation in green and sustainable development, and growing people-to-people ties have strengthened bilateral relations. As members of the G4 for UNSC reforms, India and Germany also work closely at multilateral and international forums.
